Mohammad Sohel Rana
Mohammad Sohel Rana, born 13 October 1989, started his theatre journey as an actor in 1995, when he joined the children’s cultural organization Sraboni Khelaghor Asor at Char Fasson in Bhola, Barisal. He was an active member of Bangladesh Udichi Shilpi Goshthi in Jagannath University during his undergraduate years, and later worked in the central students’ organization at the same institution. He has been a member of Prachyanat theatre ensemble since his completion of the 21st six-month-long course run by the ensemble’s School of Acting and Design in January 2012. An active member of the Prachyanat ensemble, he has been serving as the curriculum coordinator at Prachyanat School of Acting and Design since October 2016. At the same time, he has also served as Assistant Director in productions of plays such as Raktakalyan, Tartuffe, Tokoloshe and Dewan Gazir Kissa performed by the students of the Prachyanat School of Acting and Design. He has successfully directed two street plays for two batches of the Prachyanat School of Acting and Design: Swapnonagar for the 35th batch and Bishesh Droshtobbo for the 37th batch. He has been a regular performer of major characters in Prachyanat theatre ensemble’s productions such as Circus Circus, Kinu Kaharer Thetar, Raja Ebong Annyanya, Keramotnama, Bon Manush and Khowabnama. Outside Prachyanat, he has worked as an actor in productions such as Hamlet directed by Ataur Rahman and Mulluk directed by Bakar Bakul.
Mohammad Sohel Rana is one of the founding members of Spardha, and has been actively engaged in the organizational activities, and training workshops in acting and scenography run by the ensemble. He has served as the assistant director in Jiban O Rajnaitik Bastabata directed by Syed Jamil Ahmed, and actor in Rizwan and Jiban O Rajnaitik Bastabata. As a theatre practitioner, he puts more emphasis on the practice of physical acting where Vsevolod Meyerhold’s biomechanics plays significant influence.
