Mohsina Akhter
Mohsina Akhter is an independent theatre practitioner who earned her BA (Hons) and MA from the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies, University of Dhaka. She also holds an MA in direction from the Russian University of Theatre Studies (GITIS), Moscow. She completed in an online training course titled Physical Theatre: Meyerhold and Biomechanics, hosted by FutureLearn and conducted by Professor Jonathan Pitches, University of Leeds (2015), and a two-week-long training workshop titled Using Dramaturgy, hosted by Goethe Institute and conducted by Götz Leineweber and Sophia Stepf in Kolkata, India (2019). She has conducted a number of workshops on acting, taught acting and makeup at Theatre School in Dhaka, and served as an adjunct faculty at the Department of Theatre and Performance Studies, University of Dhaka, and Department of Theatre, Jagannath University. She has directed three plays: Pratiksha, a Bengali translation of Waiting for Lefty by Clifford Odets, produced by Shabdabali Theatre Group (Barisal, 2013), Shesh Raksha by Rabindranath Tagore, produced by Natyajan Theatre Group (Dhaka, 2013), and Indur-bilai Khela by Shahidul Zahir, produced by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (Tangail, 2014).
Her credits in scenography include set, light, and costume design for Pratiksha, produced by Shabdabali Theatre Group (Barisal, 2013), set, light and costume design for Shesh Raksha by Rabindranath Tagore, produced by Natyajan Theatre Group (Dhaka, 2013), Indur-bilai Khela by Shahidul Zahir, produced by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (Tangail, 2014), costume design for Baghal by Masum Reza, produced by Puber Theatre group and directed by Samsul Alam Bakul (2013), costume design for Aleya Twist, an adaptation of Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens, produced by Komola Collective and directed by Filiz Ozcan (2019), Ashadh Ka Ek Din by Mohan Rakesh, produced by Theatre Factory and directed by Aloke Basu (2020), Kohe Facebook by Mamunur Rashid, produced by Aranyak and directed by Mamunur Rashid (2020).
Mohsina Akhter is one of the founding members of Spardha Theatre Ensemble and has been engaged with its organizational activities since its inception in 2018. She has served as assistant director for Rizwan by Abhishek Majumdar (2017), and dramaturg for Jiban O Rajnaitik Bastabata by Shahidul Zahir (2019), both directed by Syed Jamil Ahmed. She has also performed in both the plays: Fatima in Rizwan and Momena in Jiban O Rajnaitik Bastabata.
